Description of each day:

Day 1 (Thursday, September 22nd) - Today we will focus entirely on the arrival of every participant and to get to know each other. Starting early afternoon, we will await you at the Dreiflüssehotel in Passau for your check-in. There will be a briefing in the evening, where all details will be explained and open questions will be answered. You are welcome to arrive earlier and to explore “The Venice of Bavaria”.

Day 2 (Friday, September 23rd, Distance approx. 220km) - On the first day, we will start in Passau, the Venice of Bavaria, and drive along the Danube to Linz. The first stop will be on the famous Pöstlingberg in Linz. The Pöstlingberg is a popular destination and offers an observation deck with a view of Linz, the baroque pilgrimage church Pöstlingberg, the Pöstlingberg mountain railway and the fairy-tale grotto of Linz. You have the possibility to take the Pöstlingberg mountain railway down to Linz (approx. 20 minutes) and to explore the city, or we will directly get on our way to Ybbs/Donau via Mauthausen. In Mauthausen, you will have the possibility to visit the concentration camp memorial. In Ybbs, you can visit the Danube Power Plant. Afterwards, our way will lead us up to Maria Taferl to the basilica and Artstetten Abbey, and to Leiben. In Leiben, you can visit the museum for agricultural engineering, before we will be on our way to our  Hotel Pfeffel in Dürnstein. In the evening, try the homemade Schnapps of the hotel, together with the owner of the hotel.

Unesco Weltkulturerbe Stift Melk in der Wachau als ein Highlight der Reise

Day 3 (Saturday, September 24th, Distance approx. 160km) - Before we set out for our round trip through the Wachau (approx. 160km), we start the day with a tour of the cellar of the Domäne Wachau, one of the 10 best producers of white wine in Austria. We will walk along the grape vines, as well as the cellar, which is more than 1km long! Wine connoisseurs will tell us all there is to know about the great wines, before we can get a taste of them! Afterwards, we set out to Spitz/Donau, while driving along the northern shore of the Danube and passing the highest mountain, the Jauerling (960m). In Spitz, you have the possibility to visit the Maritime Museum. Then we will visit the UNESO world heritage sites, the Melk Abbey and Gottweig Abbey. On the way to Gottweig Abbey, you can explore the “Marillenmeile” (famous for its peaches, however there are no fruits in September), as well as Castle Aggstein. The 1-hour hike up is definitely worth it, as you will see as soon as you arrive at the castle. It lays about 300m above the Danube and offers breath taking views of the Danube and the rest of the region. Our tour will bring us to Krems at the Danube and even a little bit further to another region, which is famous for its wine: the Kamptal. In Krems, you have the possibility to make a stop and explore the beautiful historic city center, the “mile of art” or the Caricature Museum. In case you would like to spend more time in Krems, you are welcome to leave out the last part of the road to the Kamptal and drive directly back to Dürnstein. On the way to Dürnstein, on the northern part of the Danube, we will pass Weissenkirchen. After dinner in our hotel in Dürnstein, you are invited to visit one of the numerous “Heurige”, the Austrian wine taverns, to enjoy some real Austrian wine culture.

Day 4 (Sunday, September 25th, Distance approx. 220km) - On the last day, the tour will bring us from Dürnstein back to Passau. Our route will lead us further into the Waldviertel and up to the Bärnkopf (968m). The Bärnkopf is situated in the biggest closed forest area of Austria and the highest community of the Waldviertel. From there, we will drive alongside beautiful woodlands and landscapes, to Freistadt/Mühlviertel and back to Passau.
